and I discuss a lot of different topics, some of the stuff we mention. We start off with my apology for falling for fake news about Chomsky.
I talk about my love for 1950s and 60s girl bands, and French Ye Ye Pop music. I bring this up because on my way home I found out that Francoise Hardy passed away at the age of 80. She was a great singer and just downright beautiful and stylish. The 60s French aesthetic was so good.
We go back to The Spanish Civil War and discuss the brutal reality of that conflict and other conflicts in the 20th Century.
If you are interested in the Spanish Civil War
has put together this fantastic bibliography THE SPANISH CIVIL WAR WAREHOUSE with links to books and to the outstanding multipart documentary full of archival footage. We put out some criticism of Fortissax’s essay that uses the Spanish Civil War in a very ahistorical manner. We are both very vocal about not being behind doomposting and I don’t think our current political and cultural climate is in any way similar to 1930s Spain.
After that we get on a long digression through the Alpha Quadrant and talk about our mutual love of Star Trek. Phisto wrote some great pieces on Spock and the willingness required for true sacrifice.
The Spock essay is damn good and if you haven’t read it hop on it now.
How I think DS9 is the best of Star Trek. Cope TNG.
We talk about a lot of other things like usual, and you will find the whole show entertaining.
