Finally getting around to this one. Work internet has finally been restored after being down for a few weeks.
1. There was an actual neoliberal foreign policy belief that countries with McDonalds would never be able to go to war with each other.
2. I wish I could buy a Toyota Hilux in this country. Take a look at what Top Gear tried to do to one. It is the stuff of legend. Also, all the ranchers I know still prefer old trucks for work for a reason.
3. I believe quality falling apart is the result of several factors. Rampant monopolies mean there is little real competition. Outsourcing leads to obvious quality reduction. There are fewer people learning specialized technical skills. How many tool and die makers do you know? How many of those are under the age of fifty? Things like stock buybacks, subsides, and bailouts have removed the consequences for failure. When was the last time you saw any accountability for anything? At the same time when was last time you saw anyone rewarded for putting in hard work? My whole life has been watching the competent and the useless make minimum wage while management cannot figure out why they cannot keep good people.
4. No longer having hard copies of technical manuals is something that worries me. I mean yeah, the cultural stuff is big but the stuff explaining how things work is a bit overlooked.

I promise not to keep up the annoying comments, but I just have to say that when I finished the show last night, I was laughing out loud over the "time machine" rant - buggering a certain failed Austrian artist before you murder him! Awesome.

Drink tea! Or drink coffee but don't make it a matter of 'identity' and if you're gonna do it throw away the stupid fucking lid. Also when being a tourist don't wheel your suitcase around; either carry it like a man or use a backpack.

You gents are funny AF talking cars! Not that it matters to you, but I've been working on cars and anything that runs since I was a kid. My newest ride is a 1990 F250 with dents on every corner but it's solid as can be because it was made before the "shitification" days. I've been driving Mustang's since '76 and they'll have to pry my cold, dead fingers off the wheel of my '68. Its very important to know how to fix your own rig. In my view it is best to own one without the electronics that can be switched off by tyrants. I love these podcasts and will have to catch the 2nd half tomorrow.

They used to salt the roads back East and one couldn't have anything nice unless you locked it in a garage all winter. Got the last 15 minutes of the show to listen to. I'm now hooked!

That's a good point on the tech manuals.

I’m with you on the lids! How is a man supposed to enjoy a coffee with those stupid fuckin things getting in the way?

I wish I had the time and space to get into cars, oh and money, I would love an old Beetle or Karmahn Ghia.

Glad you are enjoying it man.
Karmahn Ghia running on a modern system would be interesting.
A 1990 F250???
You lucky bastard!
Hell yeah he is. That's the truck Rust Chole drives in True Detective.
I've had several people offer to buy it. But it has a HUGE big block and loves that gas. Three years ago I was able to afford to drive it.
‘Trust being human..’
Spot fukn on!
Funny as fuck show that I still haven’t finished..
Gonna listen to this tomorrow morning.
