If it can be managed, try never to think too much about how poorly the math of "my likely time left on the planet" vs. "the number of unread books I have on my shelves or on Kindle" works out. It is deeply depressing...
That's the way I've gone in the past several decades. I've just given up on trying to read much new stuff and I reread the things I know I love. And even there, as you note, there's a sadness in realizing "this could be my last time with Zola, or Musil, or whoever it is."
