Money is long gone. Prestige is a joke conferred by infrequentable people. All that remains is respect of other writers.

I enjoyed listening in on your conversation and getting those book recommendations. But you guys agree with eachother too much. Let me help you with that: I suspect Caleb would actually be thrilled if a marketing department was beating people over the head with his books. If not, okay, but let's hear more about the party he wants to throw and why it's better than the party being thrown by Penguin Random House.

I think with regards to "building your own party," that's totally correct.

From a commercial and social standpoint it does give writers like Caleb and Coleman and other people on Substack the idea of "yes there is an audience and people who want to read what I write."

And of this stuff gets big enough, during life or posthumously, then it shows publishers that there is a market there.

And just having a little corner of the internet for like minded people is always great. I was on bluesky for a bit and it was deeply grating.

The two Terminator films were originally written as one story. It never would have fit in one but Cameron got a chance several years later.

Alexandru has impeccable manners. I recently gave unsolicited criticism on his first podcast, thinking it had just dropped.

Alexandru discussed the criticism without once mentioning that, actually, he had 20 episodes. Demure.

I'm sorry to see the monologue absent in this episode. I had some criticism of his first episode's monologue tone and pacing, but not of the content, which was very engaging.

The intro monolog is my homage to my favorite podcast, the Bret Easton Ellis pod. The reason I don’t have one sometimes is because I unfortunately work full time and recently my fake work(being an online raconteur is my real calling) has been hyper demanding, not to mention my daughter being a priority, so in between work, teaching her how to read, playing Forti\nite with her, and a hurricane, I haven’t had much time to sit down and write.

The usual recording day consists of me escaping work, driving fast for about 30 minutes while I come up with questions or topics, get my kid ready for her dance class, brew a pot of coffee, and sit down with about two minutes to spare.

I of course appreciate the feedback. I’ve been working on improving the quality of audio, I just need some more time. A friend who worked on a successful podcast sent me a box of really good equipment that he replaced, but I haven’t even had a chance to pull it out and learn it yet.

At 19:00ish talking about no new books for men. Part of that is because of this feminizing of America. Being a traditional male is toxic. But things, I think, are coming back around.

Also cutting against your the grain of your conversation, thank you for explaining the background of Deceneus. Seriously. I love Dacian stuff.

I had a Venezuelan expat coworker and she was telling me that the problem capybaras have is that while they are adorable and friendly, they are also very delicious.
